Test free, with early planispiral coil at least in the microspheric stage, followed by biserial adult stage that commonly increases rap-idly in breadth, is lozenge shaped in section and may have a marginal keel; wall agglutinated, noncanaliculate, interior fine grained with inner organic lining, outer part of wall more coarsely agglutinated; aperture a low arch at the base of the apertural face. Paleocene to Holocene; cosmopolitan.
Remarks: Banner and Pereira (1981, *130, p1. 7, figs. 1-5) reported S. wrightii (as Spirorutilis) to be noncanaliculate.
