Test attached, trochospiral, early cham­bers semicircular, later ones becoming cres­centic and finally irregular or spreading in the adult, with undulating surface, earliest chambers simple, later ones may have radial secondary septula resulting from infolding of the wall; wall with organic inner lining and outer layer of rodlike or fusiform secreted spicules, each one crystallographically a sin­gle elongate crystal (determined by electron diffraction) of low magnesium calcite (deter-mined by X-ray), in a groundmass of smaller spicules loosely held in an organic matrix.
