Test attached, trochospiral, early chambers semicircular, later ones becoming crescentic and finally irregular or spreading in the adult, with undulating surface, earliest chambers simple, later ones may have radial secondary septula resulting from infolding of the wall; wall with organic inner lining and outer layer of rodlike or fusiform secreted spicules, each one crystallographically a single elongate crystal (determined by electron diffraction) of low magnesium calcite (deter-mined by X-ray), in a groundmass of smaller spicules loosely held in an organic matrix.
